Classification of hazardous materials: GB8.1-81063. IMDG CODE: Page 8198, 8.
Use: raw materials for phosphorus oxychloride and metaphosphoric acid, acrylic ester, surfactant, anhydrating agent, drying agent, anti-static agent, purified and analytical grade reagents for drugs and sugars.
CAS NO.:1314-56-3
UN NO.: 1807
HS Code: 28091000
Molecular formula:P2O5
Molecular weight: 141.94
Electronic structural formula:

Properties: white deliquescent crystalline powder with a density of 0.9G/CM3, sublimes at 300℃, melts at 580-585℃ with a vapor pressure of 133.3Pa (384℃). When being heated under pressure to a higher temperature, the crystal will change into an amorphous glass substance with easy absorption of moisture in the air. Being solved in water, it produces heat and white smoke.
Hazards Identification: incombustible, but when it comes into contact with water and organics such as wood, cotton or grass, intense reaction will occur with release of heat, which can cause combustion. Contact with water can give off heat and smoke in large quantity and contact with moisture will corrode most of metal lightly. It has great local irritation and both steam and dust can irritate eyes, mucosa, skin and respiratory system heavily and corrode skin and mucosa.
Fire fighting measures: Wear full protective gear. Do not use water directly on fire. Use dry chemical,, carbon dioxide, or alcohol-resistant foam.
First aid measures: prevent direct contact of phosphoric acid with skin and eye so as to avoid serious skin burning and eye corrosion. Sufferers should leave the contamination area right away with clothes taken off and skin and eyes rinsed with a large amount of water. Magnesium oxide glycerin is applied to the skin and patient with serous burning should be sent to hospital for treatment immediately. In case of oral administration by mistake, the mouth should be rinsed at once and patient sent to hospital for treatment.
Eyes: Flush with plenty of water .Get medical aid.
Skin: Flush with plenty of water .Get medical aid.
Labeling: Corrosive
Storage & Handling: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep away from water, metals, alkali and flammable substances Handle with care. Keep containers tightly closed. Avoid moisture.
Accidental Release Measures: Wear a gas mask and gloves properly; A slurry is made by agitate evenly the mixture of baking soda or equivalent low alkali with lime hydrate to make slurry and pour gradually the slurry into a large amount of water; discharge the neutralized and diluted sewage into the sewage system.
